As part of my research into the American West, I realized my childhood history classes were embarrassingly silent on the first inhabitants of this land. This one-dimensional presentation of history left out so much of the richness of the fascinating cultures of the West, both the ones of the past and those still in existence today.
My first book, Valley of the Broken, pulls back the curtain of an old mining town and its tragic history with a group of Navajo people fleeing the forced relocation of The Long Walk. My second book, Desert of the Damned, follows my hero Sage on her adventure in the wilds of News Mexico and her encounter with the past civilization of the Native Puebloans (formerly known as the Anasazi) and the modern day Pueblo Nations.
To learn a little more about these people, you can access articles I’ve written on them in my westnowthen website below.
